About The Position

Responsible for a service line as directed by the Director of Surgical Services or department manager. Supervises the caliber of treatment and care of the patients. The RN Team Leader is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the designated service line. The RN Team Leader has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient care and practice leading the unit in a goal-directed manner aligned with hospitals goals and philosophies. Responsible for the patient care services provided in the operating room and patient holding/receiving areas: This includes the establishment and maintenance of a clean and safe environment or procurement of necessary equipment and supplies, control of medications, preparation of patients for surgery and immediate post-operative care. Displays a high-level of patient advocacy and complex clinical care with management duties such as staff scheduling and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum of 5 years' current experience in surgical services
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Arkansas or compact state
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS and PALS certification within one year
  • Continuing education in leadership
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • PMGT-BC, CNOR, CPAN, CAPA, or CSSM preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as leadership role model.
  • Facilitates cooperation and collaboration among disciplines and departments to improve quality care.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates proactive planning and implementation at the unit level.
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, and risk-taking behavior.
  • Develops partnerships with physicians in to improve patient care delivery.
  • Oversees direct patient care, including assessments, care planning, and medication administration.
  • Works with Surgical Services Supervisor to address best standard of care practices for the surgical patient population.
  • Assures quality care as defined by clinical outcomes.
  • Acts as a clinical resource.
  • Can mobilize appropriate clinical resources when necessary.
  • Coordinates and monitors the patient care process on a regular basis and actively participates in the hospital performance improvement process.
  • Assures accurate, appropriate, and timely staff appraisals.
  • Constructively counsels and, when necessary, disciplines staff.
  • Has the authority to discipline, and terminate staff with consultation with the Director for whom he/she is responsible.
  • Responsible to assure adequate staffing of unit in a safe and effective manner and uses resources appropriately.
  • Ensures appropriate orientation and ongoing continuing education for service line staff.
  • Assists staff to make useful self-development decisions for career growth.
  • Ensures that patient assignments are made by evaluating the needs and complexity of the patient, the competency (including age-specific competencies) of the staff, and the amount of supervision required and available.
  • Effectively and efficiently uses manpower, material, and financial resources in accordance with hospital policies and within established budget constraints.
  • Follows department policy of patient care services and hospital procedure.
  • Assures that staff does this as well.
  • Continues education clinically and managerially.
  • Serves as a role model for professional behavior, leadership skills, problem solving ability, coaching behaviors and interpersonal skills.
  • Oversees consistency in practice with current standards.
  • Ensures compliance to all regulatory standards.
  • Through practice committees and PI committees, continues to increase standards of care through new standard development, monitoring activities, and corrective action plan implementation.
  • An adaptable approach to a frequently changing environment on the unit, in the hospital, and in the health care field.
  • The ability to manage in a creative, organized, self-directed, and goal-oriented manner.
