Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing, required or Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required or 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required.
  • All RN's hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor's prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire.
  • BSN must be completed within 10 years.
  • RN's licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.
  • New graduate, or less than 1 year of experience, required.
  • NYS licensure as Registered Nurse or valid interim permit, required.
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months.
  • Other certifications may be needed based on department requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process.
  • Assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient needs.
  • Contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Works with the Manager and/or Director of Clinical Operations to assure the appropriate application of the nursing process.
  • Collects and records relevant patient health data accurately.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems and utilizes data to continuously meet care coordination needs.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Evaluates patient response to plan of care and collaborates with the interprofessional team to make adjustments.
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
  • Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals.
  • Initiates or participates in patient outcome improvement activities.
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
  • Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel.
  • Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control.
  • Maintains and documents testing reagents/supplies and equipment according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Acts effectively as a group leader or preceptor when assigned.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
  • Provides proof of current BLS validation to supervisor.
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
  • Makes clinical assignments, monitors performance, sets work schedules, and arranges coverage as delegated.
  • Assists in the development of effective interdepartmental working relationships.
  • Utilizes property and supplies appropriately and prudently to minimize waste.
  • Serves as a staff resource to the clinic manager/supervisor, providers, and other department members for problem solving and information gathering.
  • Maintains current licensure, certifications, and competencies.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
