The Registered Nurse Team Lead supports the delivery of high-quality patient care and team performance within Carilion Clinic's practice clinical service area, specifically OBGYN in Salem. This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with leadership and operational oversight to ensure optimal outcomes and a positive work environment. The RN Team Lead is responsible for leading patient care delivery, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to departmental standards. They provide direction, supervision, and delegation of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities to staff, fostering a positive team culture that promotes accountability, high morale, low turnover, and professional growth. This includes recognizing staff accomplishments and encouraging ongoing development and engagement. The role also serves as a communication bridge between staff and management, facilitating two-way feedback and timely resolution of issues. The Team Lead collaborates with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and manage care plans, maintaining confidentiality and making informed decisions based on sensitive information. They attend local and organizational management meetings, representing the unit and contributing to broader initiatives. Key responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CLIA, OSHA), supporting fiscal management by maintaining staffing levels, controlling expenses, and contributing to budget planning. The RN Team Lead leads quality improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction and performance metrics, and provides age-appropriate care utilizing knowledge of life span development. The position requires responding to urgent staffing needs, including working at other Carilion facilities when necessary, and exercising sound judgment in interpreting laws, regulations, and organizational policies, with awareness of potential impacts on reimbursement, HR, and clinical pathways.
