About The Position

The Registered Nurse Team Lead supports the delivery of high-quality patient care and team performance within our practice clinical service area. This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with leadership and operational oversight to ensure optimal outcomes and a positive work environment. The RN Team Lead Leads the delivery of patient care, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to departmental standards. Provides direction, supervision, and delegation of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities to staff. Fosters a positive team culture that promotes accountability, high morale, low turnover, and professional growth. Recognizes staff accomplishments and encourage ongoing development and engagement. Serves as a communication bridge between staff and management, ensuring two-way feedback and timely resolution of issues. Collaborates with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and manage care plans. Maintains confidentiality and make informed decisions based on sensitive information. Attends local and organizational management meetings, representing the unit and contributing to broader initiatives. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CLIA, OSHA). Supports fiscal management by maintaining staffing levels, controlling expenses, and contributing to budget planning. Leads quality improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction and performance metrics. Provides age-appropriate care utilizing knowledge of life span development. Responds to urgent staffing needs, including working at other Carilion facilities when necessary. Exercise sound judgment in interpreting laws, regulations, and organizational policies, with awareness of potential impacts on reimbursement, HR, and clinical pathways.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
  • Experience: 1 year in clinical discipline required with demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise.
  • Licensure/Certification: Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia.
  • For Psychiatry and Behavioral Health - de-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire.
  • Other minimum qualifications: Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.
  • Must possess ability to appropriately handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent.
