About The Position

The Registered Nurse for the Gastroenterology Clinic provides patient care in a clinical setting through triaging patients, answering/returning phone calls and messaging patients through our electronic health care record. This clinical team supports the Gastroenterology Specialists who are known experts in the treatment of numerous conditions of the digestive system, liver, and pancreas. Additionally, our clinical team supports the Hepatology Specialists or liver specialists who diagnose and treat hepatitis, fatty liver, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, along with other conditions. Practicing in the Clinical environment allows the RN to develop skills in communication, collaboration, and interdisciplinary teamwork. This clinic also provides learning opportunities to gain knowledge and skills with specialized training in the transplant clinic and the paracentesis/thoracentesis outpatient clinic. This interdisciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists and social workers all available to support the patient in all aspects of their care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with an Associate degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor's in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing
  • Basic Computer Skills, Excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and accountability
  • One (1) year of Registered Nurse experience
  • Valid Arkansas Registered Nursing License.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years or more of nursing experience
  • Current BLS

Responsibilities

  • Collects and documents assessment data from patients and/or others per UAMS standard.
  • Develops patient's Plan of Care (POC) per department/unit standards utilizing assessment data.
  • Evaluates the progress of patients toward attainment of desired outcomes.
  • Administers medication following department/unit standards and Nurse Practice Act.
  • Verifies and evaluates care delivered to ensure it is consistent with patient and family centered care principles, practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the integration of current evidence into nursing practices.
  • Promotes an environment conducive to positive educational experience for all students and staff.
  • Provides effective patient/family education/discharge planning.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicates care appropriately through documentation in the medical record.
  • Reports variances in care/ systems/ processes through the appropriate means.
  • Participates in recruitment/retention of staff.
  • Facilitates development and implementation of nursing practice standards that are evidence-based and in compliance with ANA standards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
