About The Position
5 North is a 26-bed General Surgery specialty unit, functioning as a Med-Surg Unit with heavy surgical volume. Specializations include elective bariatric weight loss surgery, general surgery (appendectomies, cholecystectomies, small bowel obstruction, etc.), foot and ankle ortho (total ankle replacements, infected foot wounds, BKA's), and urology surgery. Nurses on this unit will gain experience with various drains, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, DHT, and all surgical procedures. Atrium Health Mercy, a 196-bed facility of Carolinas Medical Center, is located 1.3 miles from CMC. It is a Planetree Certified facility, focusing on connecting values, strategies, and action, implementing practices that promote partnership, using evidence to drive improvement, and creating organizational structures that promote engagement. For over 100 years, Atrium Health Mercy has provided care to approximately 80-110 ED and 130-212 in-patients daily, specializing in the care of seniors, complex foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee surgery, bariatric surgery, and women's pelvic health.
