A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and indirect care of the patient with a variety of surgical related conditions. Including but not limited to orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology, bariatric, vascular, and pre-transplant patients. The RN on the eSTAR, Emergency Surgical Admission Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and indirect care of patient with a variety of surgical related conditions. The RN must be able to assess and monitor patients pre and post procedure, as well as administer medications and assist with bedside procedures under the supervision of an EHS physician. The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age and acuity of patients served in eSTAR. eSTAR serves a patient population ranging from Med-Surg level of care to Stepdown level of care, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3-5:1 dependent on patient acuity level. The RN must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The RN must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.
