Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) degree.
  • Active New York State RN license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing home experience in an evening supervision capacity.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend.
  • Proficiency in patient care documentation and safe medication administration.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Immunity to Hepatitis B (proof required).
  • Ensures adherence to all applicable State and federal laws, rules, and regulations, as well as facility policies related to restraints, seclusion, intensive supervision, abuse prevention, and incident reporting.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors corrective action plans in response to identified regulatory deficiencies to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of DOH, CMS, and federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage staff confidently and professionally.
  • Understands the legal ramifications of failing to provide necessary care to veterans.
  • Must be knowledgeable about survey processes and requirements.
  • Must be competent in admissions, clinical assessment and documentation, care planning, completion of the GG (Minimum Data Set) assessments, and reporting cases to the Department of Health (DOH) in accordance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of assigned nursing and direct care staff.
  • Direct and reviews the work of nursing staff; completes performance evaluations of assign staff; and initiates appropriate counseling or disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Develops assignments and daily staffing plans for nursing care; prepares and monitors staffing schedules; and ensures adequate nursing coverage.
  • Identifies staff development needs; develops, presents, and/or arranges for training on clinical nursing topics; and evaluates the effectiveness of in-service education and guidance programs.
  • Ensures that staff meet requirements for first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other agency-specific training required.
  • Participates in the recruitment process, including interviewing nursing candidates, participating in orientation programs for new staff, and other hiring activities.
  • Supervises admission and discharge planning activities; serves as a liaison to community providers, families, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
  • Maintains established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, federal, and accreditation requirements.
  • Makes rounds to ensure a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment; ensure that residents’ safety, well-being, and care needs are met.
  • Communicates and enforces policies, procedures, and current trends in nursing practice.
  • Monitors and reviews nursing documentation, such as progress notes and medication charts, for accuracy and quality; follows up with staff to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assesses the quality of nursing care and assists with developing and implementing quality control programs.
  • Oversee narcotics tracking and management; ensures that medical inventories are properly maintained and stored.
  • Participates in the management and administration of nursing services, including planning and program development.
  • Meets with managers to review, update, and ensure the effectiveness of nursing policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assists with department oversight, including budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and committee/workgroup participation.
  • Performs the duties of a Registered Nurse 1 and covers staff assignments when necessary.
