About The Position

Provides supervision of the daily operations of the Orthopedics Clinic requiring registered nursing expertise. Assuring goals and objectives are obtained through the planning, implementing, and directing of programs, procedures, systems, and support of personnel. Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, nursing diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and recognition of professional standards and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of Minnesota
  • CPR required
  • Good verbal and written communication, required.
  • Critical thinking and the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks, required.
  • At least one year of related supervisor experience or three years related non-supervisory experience required

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to surgical patients in an outpatient/clinical setting in close partnership with surgeons.
  • Coordinate surgery scheduling between surgeons, schedulers, and patients.
  • Manage and document post-op and recheck appointments as needed.
  • Support surgeons with daily tasks, including managing general surgery and physician task lists (triage calls, test results, paperwork, INRs, etc.) and monitoring in-basket messages.
  • Round on hospitalized patients and assist with discharges under the supervision of surgeons.
  • Conduct post-op checks, dressing changes, and recheck visits when surgeons are unavailable; document all visits appropriately.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Collaborate with other service areas to optimize patient flow and outcomes.
  • Participate in process and quality improvement initiatives within both clinic and hospital settings.

  • Ensure departments are in compliance with all laws and regulatory bodies. Communicates and educates staff and develops processes to ensure compliance is continuously met.
  • Practices fiscal responsibility and cost control by monitoring and adhering to financial reports, forecasts and budgets. Includes staff in continuous efforts of financial improvement.
  • Plans and delegates the work of others. Maintains appropriate staffing and follows service area productivity guidelines and expectations. Involves staff in continuous efforts to identify and implement productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors patient experience, quality and/or customer service as applicable and involves staff in continuous efforts towards improvement.
  • Follows HR policies. Interviews, hires, orients and trains new staff. Supervises, coaches, counsels and appraises service area staff. Retains solid and high performing staff.
  • Facilitates communication and teamwork between departments to build relationships and facilitate department and interdepartmental success.
  • Develops and tracks service area policies procedures, processes and competencies and communicates updates and changes regularly with staff. Manages service area contracts per Contract Review policies.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and training to staff based on performance metrics and service area trends.
  • Evaluate nursing functions and recommend policy or procedural updates to maintain compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in developing and implementing annual service area goals and monitor progress toward completion.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new orthopedic nursing staff.
  • Conduct or assist with employee performance evaluations in collaboration with the Orthopedics Manager.
  • Monitor staff workflows and promote a high level of customer and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensure open, two-way communication between employees and leadership, addressing staff concerns promptly.
  • Manage timekeeping, attendance, and related issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Orthopedics Manager and other leaders to improve workflows and patient engagement.
  • Lead and facilitate service area meetings.
  • Support system upgrades and service-area-specific software development.
  • Maintain leadership and clinical competence through participation in professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
