Job Summary The RN - Clinical Supervisor provides clinical and administrative leadership for a hospital unit, supporting patient care delivery and overseeing nursing staff performance. This position works in collaboration with the unit director to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include supervision of staff, shift coordination, support for clinical practice, and facilitation of operational initiatives, staffing, and patient flow.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate, evaluate, and guide staff performance
  • Ability to multitask and respond in high-stress clinical environments
  • Proficient in clinical documentation and use of hospital systems
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
  • Current RN license in state of practice or compact license required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - required within time frame required by facility policy
  • Additional certifications (e.g., ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale) as required by facility policy or patient population
  • Minimum two years of clinical experience in acute care nursing

Nice To Haves

  • Charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical leadership and supervision for RN, LPN, NA, and unit support staff
  • Assists with patient care, nursing assessments, and treatment planning using the nursing process
  • Coordinates nursing activities and resource use to achieve unit goals
  • Ensures quality, safety, and regulatory compliance in daily operations
  • Participates in patient education, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary care coordination
  • Supports staff development through mentoring, training, and education
  • Assists in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
  • Contributes to budgeting, staffing plans, and resource management
  • Assists in audits, performance improvement, and policy development
