About The Position

UnityPoint-St. Luke's is offering a Full-Time Summer Internship for 2026, running from May 25, 2026, to August 3, 2026. This internship is designed for Senior BSN Nursing Students and provides a hands-on, real-world experience in a hospital setting. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the student nurse intern will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients. Responsibilities include assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, allowing interns to partner with RNs and gain exposure to clinical experiences that reinforce their theoretical knowledge and prepare them for their future roles as RNs.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in and in good standing in an accredited BSN nursing program.
  • Successfully completed the third year of a BSN program.
  • GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • Must be able to complete computer programs.
  • Must be able to meet reliable attendance guidelines.
  • Must legally perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Able to demonstrate necessary skills and competencies including medication administration and nursing competencies.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Able to distinguish colors.
  • Able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Delegates nursing care activities and monitors care given by appropriate care team members in accordance with patient needs.
  • Assists in creating a positive work environment by working with team members to develop and facilitate initiatives for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures, and guides team members with compliance.
  • Maintains reliable attendance as an expectation of the team member role.
  • Assumes responsibility for continued growth in competencies, lifelong learning, and involvement in unit and hospital quality of care projects.
  • Participates in mandatory education and unit meetings per established guidelines.
  • Complies with all safety goals, infection prevention, and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates with all team members, physicians, ancillary staff, and customers.
  • Documents complete information and maintains an accurate legal record of patient care.
  • Follows compliance requirements for federally funded programs regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
