About The Position

ATC Healthcare is seeking a skilled and reliable Step-Down Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Knoxville, Tennessee. The RN will deliver total patient care in a 31-bed step-down unit, providing monitoring and treatment for patients requiring intermediate-level care between ICU and medical-surgical acuity. This position is ideal for nurses with strong clinical judgment, telemetry experience, and the ability to manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment. The RN will work nights with every other weekend rotation, and may be required to float to similar-acuity units as needed.

Requirements

  • Active Tennessee RN license or Compact State license (required).
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Step-Down or Progressive Care experience (required).
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS (required).
  • Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and IV management.
  • Strong patient assessment and time-management skills.
  • Must be able to provide care for a 1:4–1:6 patient ratio in a 31-bed unit.
  • Must wear royal blue scrubs per facility dress code.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.

  • Experience with Cerner EMR (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, high-quality, and comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring step-down or progressive care monitoring.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret telemetry strips, and promptly respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and titrated drips per provider orders and facility protocols.
  • Manage patient care independently while collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Provide education to patients and families on treatment plans, recovery expectations, and discharge preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation using the Cerner EMR system.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and hospital policies at all times.
  • Participate in unit safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
  • Float as required to units of equal or lower acuity within the facility.
