About The Position

A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. The Emergency Nurse is responsible for providing age specific care through the assessment, nursing diagnosis, and treatment of perceived, actual or potential, sudden or urgent, physical or psychosocial problems that are primarily episodic or acute. Resolution may require minimal care or life-support measures, patient and family education, appropriate referral, and knowledge of legal implications. The emergency nurse must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated. Clinical competency is evaluated annually using a variety of mechanisms. It focuses on the population-specific needs of the customers served by the staff member.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
  • BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and new developments in nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification.
  • PALS certification.
  • TNCC certification.
  • ENPC/PALS certification.
  • CEN certification.
  • Two years emergency nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and/or indirect care of patients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute or urgent health issues.
  • Educate patients and families regarding health care needs.
  • Interpret information to identify patient requirements based on age-specific needs.
  • Evaluate clinical competency annually.
