About The Position

The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality focused RN Staff Development Supervisor to join our Independent Living Home Care team! This position is responsible for oversight of orienting, evaluating, educating, training and supervising Home Care staff to enhance each of our member's quality of life in providing dignity and respect in full recognition of resident-centered care.

Requirements

  • Must have valid NC or compact state RN license with no substantial findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of resident property.
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in RN capacity, preferably supervisory or management level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
  • Familiar with North Carolina Home Care regulations.
  • Must have competent computer skills including Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Public speaking is also a requirement and must be comfortable creating and providing education opportunities for groups of employees.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and have ability to communicate and present in person, in writing, and on the telephone effectively with both large and small groups in English.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and assists with the recruiting and employment process including interviews, verifying licensure and certificates, checking references, making job offers and coordinating scheduling department and community orientations.
  • Responsible for the overall supervision of the Home Care CNAs providing frequent updates to the Director of Home Care.
  • Supervise Certified Nurse Assistants rendering nursing services to clients; perform on-site evaluation and supervision of Home Care clinical employees.
  • Instruct field staff in methods of proper documentation when indicated; Instructs field staff in the home when indicated.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of field staff personnel. Counsel and document staff on performance issues. Documents appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintains meticulous documentation on field staff and keeps the documentation current, as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for assuring that an RN is always on-call for home care agency. This includes after office hours and weekends. There will be an RN available to the staff 24/7.
  • Communicates and responds promptly to all inquiries from caregivers.
  • Conducts Inservice education programs in quarterly staff meetings for CNAs.
  • Monitors policies, procedures and work performance standards ensuring they meet all North Carolina regulations.
  • Administers direct nursing care including medication management when needed.
  • Makes routine supervisory visits to assure proper care and a safe, clean member environment.
  • Assures accuracy and completeness of charting to ensure that all CNAs are charting tasks every shift. This will be done by weekly audit with progress reported to the Director of Home Care.
  • Supervises Home Care personnel on all shifts. May assist with supervision of adequate staffing, accurate scheduling, and timekeeping records.
  • Participates and assists with orientation of Home Care CNAs education programs and develops educational opportunities for Home Care CNAs.
  • Participates and assists with employee performance reviews as directed by the Director of Home Care.
  • Participates and assists with employee concerns, counseling, investigations, disciplines and/or terminations as needed.
  • Participates in family and member counseling, education, and teaching.
  • Orients new CNAs to the emergency response system and responds to emergency calls as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records of employee licenses and certifications, ensuring they are up to date.
  • Functions in the capacity of Case Management in her/his absence and will step in to complete duties as assigned and maintains the nursing department standards of best practices.
  • Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to member care.
  • Participates in "on call" rotation and duties as required and necessary. This will typically require working one weekend per month, one night per week, and one winter and summer holiday.
  • Hours vary and will include some weekends and "off" shifts to accommodate employees working second and third shifts.
  • Completes and monitors skills check-off lists for new hires and provides on-going yearly competencies and in-services to keep staff educated and informed.
  • Performs fit testing to all new employees and conducts annual fit tests for all home care staff.
