About The Position

RN Staff Development and Infection Control Nurse Optalis Health & Rehabilitation of Muskegon 1061 W Hackley Ave, Muskegon MI 49441 RN Sign on Bonus $7,500 Key Responsibilities The role's responsibilities are divided into two main areas: Staff Development / Education Orientation & Training: Plans, coordinates, and delivers general orientation for all new hires and ongoing in-service education and annual competencies for existing staff. Curriculum Development: Designs and provides health and safety education programs consistent with regulatory requirements and facility needs. Competency Management: Assesses staff learning needs, provides targeted training to address performance gaps, and ensures completion of mandatory training requirements for licensed and non-licensed personnel (e.g., CNAs, LPNs, RNs). Record Keeping: Maintains accurate records of all employee education, training, and health files, including certifications and immunizations. Resource Management: Coordinates CPR training, identifies external instructors with expertise when needed, and manages educational resources. Infection Control / Prevention Surveillance & Analysis: Conducts infection surveillance, collects and analyzes data, and tracks trends to reduce infection risks and identify underlying causes of outbreaks. Policy & Procedure: Develops, implements, reviews, and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and regulatory guidelines from agencies like the CDC and OSHA. Outbreak Management: Investigates reported cases of infection, manages outbreaks, and initiates control measures, including implementing appropriate isolation and transmission-based precautions. Compliance & Reporting: Monitors compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, and cleaning protocols; reports communicable diseases to local and state health departments as required by law. Antibiotic Stewardship: Reviews the use of antibiotics and participates in the facility's antibiotic stewardship program.

Requirements

  • A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Preferably two or more years of nursing experience, often in a long-term care setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Infection control training or certification (e.g., SPICE Certification , Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology certification) may be preferred or required within a certain timeframe of employment.
