About The Position

The Special Care Nursery RN position is a part-time, per diem role at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, requiring flexibility for both day and night shifts. The role involves using the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans. The RN will work collaboratively with patients and families, anticipate changes in patient conditions, and coordinate care with other healthcare team members. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
  • Demonstrates holistic patient care and ability to view situations from a patient and family focus.
  • Proficient computer skills and use of electronic medical records systems.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical, independent decisions.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs and implement individualized interventions.
  • Involves patients and families in planning and implementing care.
  • Anticipates and recognizes significant changes in patient conditions.
  • Provides ongoing assessment and takes appropriate actions when changes occur.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Assesses patient and family readiness to learn and individualizes the approach.
  • Coordinates discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practice in patient care.
  • Incorporates nursing and regulatory standards into practice.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes action as needed.
  • Supports shared governance activities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promotes collaboration among healthcare team members.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the care team and delegates appropriately.
  • Identifies threats to patient safety and intervenes to prevent harm.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and mentoring opportunities.
