About The Position

The Nursing Shift Manager (NSM) is a professional Registered Nurse who assumes management responsibility for the Unit during a shift. This role involves ensuring patient safety, monitoring staff compliance with safety measures, and providing quality nursing care. The NSM is responsible for coaching staff, maintaining central lines, and preventing surgical site infections. The position requires participation in quality monitoring activities and process changes to achieve quality outcomes. The NSM also performs assessments, documents patient care activities, and communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure.
  • One year of registered nursing experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures.
  • Monitors staff compliance with safety measures.
  • Coaches/counsels assigned staff members on safety standards.
  • Maintains and cares for central lines and prevents surgical site infections.
  • Provides quality nursing care including administration of medications and patient teaching.
  • Monitors staff compliance with all quality measures.
  • Provides support and education to staff regarding quality initiatives.
  • Participates in quality monitoring activities as assigned.
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments in all aspects of patient care.
  • Reviews and cosigns admission assessment for LPN staff members.
  • Monitors quality of assessments performed by staff.
  • Guides and directs patient care staff to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Documents accurately and efficiently all patient care activities.
  • Completes all required NSM specific paperwork.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information to physicians and team members.
  • Communicates with patients and families to enhance their experience.
  • Performs service recovery as needed.
  • Communicates professionally with nursing and physician staff.
  • Delegates appropriately to team members.
  • Demonstrates understanding of healthcare dynamics and adapts to change.
