About The Position
The Registered Nurse - Patient Safety Coordinator at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a pivotal role focused on enhancing patient care and minimizing preventable harm throughout the organization. This position encompasses a comprehensive review of patient safety events across all inpatient and ambulatory areas, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement. The coordinator will be responsible for investigating and analyzing patient safety events promptly, ensuring that all findings are communicated effectively to frontline staff, medical personnel, nursing departments, service line directors, and executive leadership. In addition to event analysis, the Patient Safety Coordinator will facilitate root cause analyses and lead process improvement initiatives in alignment with hospital policies. This role requires a deep understanding of quality improvement tools and methodologies, as the coordinator will serve as a subject matter expert for UAB Medicine staff and committees. The coordinator's efforts will support UAB Medicine's compliance with the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies, ensuring that patient safety remains a top priority within the organization. The position is designed for a senior-level nurse who possesses a strong clinical background and is committed to fostering a culture of safety and quality within the healthcare environment.
