About the position

The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Surgery Recovery Room at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. The role involves providing professional nursing care within Borgess Medical Center, applying specialized knowledge and skills derived from biological, physical, and behavioral sciences. The nurse will care for individuals experiencing changes in health processes or requiring assistance in maintaining health and preventing or managing illness, injury, or disability. Responsibilities include collaborating with patients and families to set mutual goals, diagnosing and treating health problems, evaluating nursing care outcomes, and ensuring patient rights and privacy are protected. The nurse will also assess and manage pain, delegate tasks to other care providers, and document patient conditions and responses to interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care within Borgess Medical Center.
  • Participate in open discussions with patients and families to identify mutual goals based on nursing assessments.
  • Diagnose, treat, and evaluate human responses to health problems.
  • Evaluate outcomes of nursing care plans and revise as necessary.
  • Assess, detect, monitor, and attempt to prevent complications associated with health situations.
  • Notify physicians of patient conditions and document actions appropriately.
  • Ensure patients' pain is assessed, treated, and documented.
  • Delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed care providers based on clinical judgment.

Requirements

  • Advanced Life Support credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS Provider credential from the AHA obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Associates of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) or RN Diploma required; Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Critical Care experience required.
  • PACU experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Critical Care experience or Emergency Room experience required.
  • ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire.
