About The Position
As a Registered Nurse in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UAB Medicine, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex neurological conditions. The NICU is one of the largest in Alabama and specializes in treating patients with neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, and trauma at our Level I Trauma Center. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you will be involved in specialized treatments, including managing external ventricular drainage (EVD) systems and administering intrathecal medications. You will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring that each patient receives individualized attention and support. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with interdisciplinary care teams to deliver patient- and family-centric care, utilizing a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide your nursing judgment and interventions. You will be expected to identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model and manage all aspects of nursing care in a timely and cost-effective manner.
