About The Position

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) at Northwest Texas Healthcare System plays a critical role in the operating room, functioning under the supervision of the Supervisor - Operating Room. This position requires specialized education and technical skills to assist surgeons during intraoperative procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes. The RNFA is responsible for providing direct patient care throughout the surgical process, adhering to safety standards, and contributing to a culture of service excellence within the organization.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Graduate of a recognized RNFA program.
  • Current ACLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enhance team functioning in the operating room.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in emergency situations.
  • Participate in continuing education programs to maintain and enhance clinical competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred or will obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Ongoing certification as a CRNFA, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that require specialized RNFA education and training.
  • Provide direct care to patients preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively using the nursing process.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate plans of care utilizing clinical skills and patient education.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Assess risks to patient safety and implement appropriate precautions.
  • Comply with organizational and accrediting agency standards for safety and injury prevention.
  • Support an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practice Service Excellence standards.
