Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• At least one year in a health care setting.
• Prior psychiatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to youth in the residential treatment setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
• Identify patient health care needs utilizing physical and behavioral professional nursing assessment skills.
• Make comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations of health needs including subtle abnormalities and changes in condition.
• Develop nursing care plans by assessing patient’s psychological and physical condition.
• Create plans for treatment, services and health education based on the present and predicted needs of the patient.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment teams and collaborate with professional and para-professional staff to ensure optimum care for patients.
• Administer medications as prescribed by a physician or designee and ensure correct time, dosage and appropriate route of administration.
• Monitor patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions.
• Observe patients to determine if medication is effective for prescribed treatment and appropriately document findings.
• Maintain the safety, health and well-being of the children served in the therapeutic environment.
• Make crucial decisions to restrain patients who are a threat to themselves or others.
