About The Position

The Recovery Room Nurse performs at a competent level of nursing practice and according to the standards of practice for the area. The Recovery Room Nurse performs patient care and service through a multidisciplinary team approach. The Recovery Room Nurse functions to maintain an environment of caring and concern for patients and staff members according to principles of patient focused care and customer service. Department: Recovery Room Hours: Full-time, 36 hours/week

  • ADN (Required)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support W/I 90 Days - Sarah Bush Lincoln
  • BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire. - Sarah Bush Lincoln
  • PALS must be completed within 1 year - Sarah Bush Lincoln
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification - Sarah Bush Lincoln
  • RN-Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients' conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members.

  • Assessment- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data.
  • Cares for patients preoperatively and postoperatively.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team to address issues related to patients through the process of mutual information sharing, discussion, and decision making.
  • Coordinates bed and patient care assignments during shift and in preparation for the next shift to ensure consistency in care delivery.
  • Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
  • Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues.
  • Documents and reports care delivered to the physicians and other team members as needed.
  • Enhances professional growth through classes related to communication, teaching, stress management, conflct resolution, team building annually. (This is in addition to required unit/patient specific education.)
  • Evaluates outcomes of care delivered to patients and adjusts nursing approach accordingly.
  • Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines.
  • Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards.
  • Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities.
  • Makes perioperative patient assessments and develops patient plans.
  • Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
  • Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Predicts potential risk to patients and others and initiates actions to minimize or prevent the risk.
  • Prepares and cares for patients undergoing anesthesia procedures.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to health care team during assigned shift.
  • Provides patient teaching, utilizing available teaching tools and community resources
  • Provides performance feedback to team members input to Manager/Director regarding appraisals.
  • Provides rationale for patient care decisions based on standards of care specific to PACU/OPS patients.
  • Relationships - Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions.
  • Serves as strong, positive role model for other health care team members.
