About The Position

The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Pulmonary Medicine Unit, focusing on a higher acuity patient population. The role is full-time, requiring 36 hours a week, with shifts from 7pm to 7am, including every third weekend and holiday. The nurse will develop care plans, evaluate patient progress, communicate with patients and families, document health data, and provide individualized teaching based on patient assessments. The nurse will also support the professional development of peers and participate in performance improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • If Associate Degree is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date.
  • Active Illinois State Nursing License.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of start date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's in Nursing.
  • 1 year of inpatient nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a plan of care that identifies interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Evaluates patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes and revises diagnosis and interventions as needed.
  • Provides patient assessment and collects health data involving patient, family, and other health care providers.
  • Communicates plan of care to patient and family regularly, respecting their wishes.
  • Documents patient health data, interventions, and communications.
  • Individualizes patient and family teaching based on thorough assessments.
  • Assesses patient’s cultural background, learning style, and modifies teaching plans accordingly.
  • Provides teaching on disease management strategies, emergency care, and drug information.
  • Identifies community resources to support patient self-management of disease.
  • Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and students.
  • Shares knowledge and provides feedback to support clinical education.
  • Assigns or delegates tasks as needed.
  • Nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Assists technical staff with injections, venipuncture, drug administration, oxygen therapy, and IV management.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and nursing research.
  • Keeps abreast of research and practice trends in wound/ostomy/skin care.
  • Supports staff in using research and providing evidence-based care.
  • Conducts daily rounds of wound/ostomy/skin care patients if skilled.
  • Monitors effectiveness of wound/ostomy treatment plans.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assists in transporting acutely ill patients as needed.
