About The Position

The Registered Nurse will support the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by coordinating and delivering clinical care across programs such as the Child Study Center, Six Bridges, and STRIVE Clinics. Working under the Director of Outpatient Programs, the RN will manage clinic operations, assist psychiatrists, supervise nursing staff, oversee patient triage, and ensure accurate EPIC documentation and medication management. This role involves providing direct patient care, educating patients and families, facilitating appointments, coordinating transitions of care, reviewing intake referrals, and serving as a liaison between medical, therapy, and community partners—including the emergency room and pediatric clinics. The RN will also lead scheduling and organizational functions for medication and teaching clinics, support group activities, gather patient histories, and help maintain efficient patient flow. Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, administrative ability, and knowledge of pediatric mental health care are essential, along with adherence to UAMS, ANA, and AR Board of Nursing standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with an Associate's degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor's in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing, plus one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience required.
  • Valid Arkansas Registered Nursing License.
  • New graduates welcome with current BLS certification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accept and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate following Guest Care guidelines.
  • CPR certification (BCLS) completed during probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Triage all referrals to determine if they are appropriate, ensure that ACH and other community referrals are addressed within required time frames, and clarify at intake that our mandate is assessment, short-term therapy, and medication stabilization after which patients will be referred back to the PCP.
  • Improve efficiency by developing a reliable system to discharge back to the primary care providers, both at ACH and in the community.
  • Coordinate intake, updates, and discharge documentation, including utilizing integration of the EMR systems at UAMS and ACH through EPIC Care Everywhere.
  • Discuss shared care patients via email, phone, and/or face-to-face contact with an appropriate nursing equivalent in each referring clinic in order to assist with making this system fully operational. Development of integrated and coordinated care will be among the required duties.
  • Complete prior authorization requests, return phone calls, provide refills, drafts and send discharge letters, and write standard letters, among many other tasks of indirect care within the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Coordinates the crisis service by providing telephone support, triage, scheduling appointments, and general case management with discharge to the appropriate community resource.
  • Coordinates care and/or follow-up and provides patient education coordination in collaboration with the physician staff.
  • Deliver nursing care according to standards as defined by UAMS, American Nurses Association (ANA), AR State Board of Nursing (ASBN), and those set forth by nursing specialty organizations.
  • Helps develop patient’s Plan of Care (POC) per clinic standards utilizing assessment data. Verifies and evaluates care to ensure it is consistent with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement, Collaborative Case Conference, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research process. Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Support the integration of current evidence into nursing practices.
  • Promote an environment conducive to positive educational experience for all students and staff. Implement POC using an approach that is interdisciplinary and Patient and Family Centered Care.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Communicate care appropriately through documentation in the medical record. Report variances in care/systems/processes through the appropriate means.
  • Participate in unit/department-based organizational activities/committees such as the Professional Nursing Organization, (PNO). Demonstrate commitment to professional nursing, development and growth. Evaluate personal performance based on professional practice standards. Use constructive feedback from peers and supervisors to improve practice and performance. Maintain clinical competencies specific to the area of practice/responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
