About The Position

Centered in beautiful Southern California, Adventist Health Simi Valley has been one of the area's leading healthcare providers since 1965. Simi Valley is a suburban area nestled between an urban oasis and the stunning shores of the Pacific Ocean. Bordering Los Angeles allows hiking in the morning and attending film premieres in the evening. Job Summary: Maintains 24-hour responsibility of hospital’s base station activities and standards. Coordinates and evaluates all aspects of pre-hospital care services. Works directly with base hospital physicians, unit director and the Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICNs) to maintain base station operations according to policies/procedures. Acts as hospital liaison to (Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel including ambulance providers, fire and law enforcement.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification: Required
  • Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN): Required
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM): Required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS): Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Healthstream Pediatric Advanced Life Support (HS-PALS) or RQIPALS: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
  • Nursing experience: Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN): Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops goals and objectives for staff, implements and administers methods/procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate for prehospital/hospital. Serves as primary liaison with internal/external constituencies on all matters related to prehospital program activities. Represents organization with respect to prehospital activities on a local, regional and State basis.
  • Supervises and leads staff and/or student employees. Provides input into performance evaluation process. Plans and coordinates the development of newly hired/trained paramedics and MICNs. Provides care in a skilled and effective manner, utilizing appropriate technical and decision-making skills. Evaluates patient progress in a systematic, ongoing manner. Participates in staff meetings and seeks assistance in unfamiliar clinical situations.
  • Participates in the generating program resources and in designing and developing program operating goals, objectives and protocols. Participates in the development and continued evaluation of policies/procedures and programs for the organization. Follows policy, procedure, standards of care and protocol changes common to patient population.
  • Creates, produces and delivers a range of promotional, educational and informational presentations, and/or resource materials related to prehospital/hospital activities and initiatives. Implements a safe plan of care for patients of varying complexity given years of experience. Detects obvious changes in patient conditions and provides care appropriately.
  • Ensures the development and maintenance of positive working relationships with medical team members, affiliated and referring institutions, prehospital personnel and the medical community. Keeps abreast of current trends in emergency and critical care nursing.
