This RN Educator is a Professional Development Facilitator that will support Med Surg. The role involves identifying staff orientation and educational needs, developing plans and education/in-services to address those needs, and collaborating with various teams to enhance patient outcomes. The RN Educator will develop, implement, coordinate, and provide continuing education for the department, staff, patients, and families, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. They will serve as a resource and mentor to staff, review and revise nursing practice competencies, and act as a positive change agent. The position requires the development of individual orientation plans, coordination of educational needs, and participation in performance improvement initiatives.

  • Identify staff orientation and educational needs.
  • Develop plans and education/in-services to address educational needs.
  • Collaborate with CAPS and Nursing Quality teams for process improvements.
  • Develop and implement continuing education for staff, patients, and families.
  • Ensure compliance with State, Federal, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to staff.
  • Review and revise nursing practice competencies and associated policies.
  • Develop individual orientation plans in collaboration with Orientation Consultant.
  • Assist Director with ongoing unit education and competency evaluations.
  • Provide feedback regarding orientee progress to relevant personnel.
  • Encourage and mentor staff for CAP and educational opportunities.
  • Assist with annual learning needs assessment on unit.
  • Coordinate department annual needs assessment and continuing education.
  • Identify and develop unit-based preceptors and shared governance council members.
  • Plan and implement strategies to support quality patient care and improve outcomes.
  • Participate in department and system performance improvement initiatives.
  • Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
  • BSN required, Master's prepared preferred (Education, quality, nursing, healthcare or business).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in related field required.
  • Current RN license in the state of Virginia required.
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate certifications as defined by the department.
  • Nursing certification preferred (i.e. Nursing Professional Development (NPD), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)).
  • Demonstrates effective communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Desires to work with new employees.
  • Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, organization, and effective judgment abilities required.
  • Experience with Magnet framework.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices.
