About The Position

The RN - Procedural Services position at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA involves providing pre and post-operative care for procedural patients. The unit operates 24/7 and consists of a 13-bed facility catering to a variety of patient needs, including those requiring extended recovery and preparation for procedures in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, and surgery. Nurses in this role are expected to be BLS certified and obtain ACLS training within their first year of employment. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, with full-time roles eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus. The working hours are from 7pm to 7am.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing.
  • Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity and customer/patient focused.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making necessary referrals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Completes documentation promptly to assure an accurate legal record of patient care.
  • Delivers high-quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on the assigned unit.
  • Utilizes a holistic approach considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients and families served.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Assesses and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age-specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
