About The Position

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is an 11 bed ICU that cares for critically ill children at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. The PICU is staffed by RNs, NPs, and Pediatric Intensivist who work closely together with a supportive multidisciplinary care team to provide acute care to children from 0-18 years of age. We offer a progressive educational program to train staff in pediatric critical care to include monthly inservices from our physicians. The PICU RN provides care for children and adolescents from 0-18 years of age, with life-threatening or high- acuity conditions that require constant monitoring. The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessment of children who have respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine and neurologic dysfunction. The PICU RN plans and delivers safe, age appropriate care under critical situations based on the patient’s needs to include titration of drips, multiple technical procedures and use of a variety of equipment for acute care. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift, and strives to provide clinical and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or critical care.
  • No new grads accepted
  • BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
  • PALS required within 6 months of hire.
