The Neonatal ICU, Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery, Lactation, and Perinatal Education departments are busy and fast-paced, with 150-200 deliveries a month, two ORs for cesarean sections, and an average daily census of eight NICU babies. Our hospital has earned the Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission, distinguishing us as a leader in maternal and neonatal care within the community. We collaborate closely with Children’s Mercy neonatology specialists who staff our NICU and delivery team 24/7, along with respiratory care and other specialists, to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Our culture values each team member’s expertise and input, fostering a positive, patient-centered experience for families. Under the direction of the department nurse director, the role involves providing care to obstetrical and neonatal patients during the postpartum phase of pregnancy. This includes assessments and care of the postpartum patient and neonate, as well as educating the mother on care, feeding, and security of the infant, ensuring that both the patient and infant are prepared for discharge.
