About The Position

Pediatrics is a 38 bed medical surgical floor located within Women and Children’s Hospital. Our nurses focus on the medical needs and treatment of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults up to 21 years of age. Their specialized training allows them to provide their patients and families with age appropriate emotional support and medical care. Our nurses are part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Pediatric Hospitalists, Nurse Practitioners, Residents, Physical Therapists, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, Dieticians, Social Workers and Child Life Therapy. The pediatric nurse must be caring, compassionate, and have critical thinking skills. The nurse will need to assess a patient’s condition as well as detect any changes and will need to recognize when further intervention is necessary. Our department provides educational opportunities to promote a solid foundation in caring for our patients. Seasonal PRN. Must work fulltime hours October through February. March through May & August through September must work 24 shifts. OFF for the months of June and July. Holiday requirements will remain in effect with the exception of the holidays in the months of June and July.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Pediatric experience.
  • PALS Certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS and PALS must be obtained and/or maintained through Huntsville Hospital's Corporate University.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families.
  • Assess patient conditions and detect any changes that require intervention.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including Pediatric Hospitalists, Nurse Practitioners, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
