About The Position

Responsible for the interview and assessment preoperatively for the surgical patient. Responsible for the screening process of scheduled surgical patients. Responsible to obtain testing information from primary physician and past medical visits as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Illinois licensed or eligible.
  • CPR certification required
  • Minimum one year of PACU experience preferred
  • Critical care experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS provider status preferred
  • PALS provider status preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports patient's rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical and religious diversity
  • Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
  • Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation.
  • Documents readiness to learn, teaching barriers and outcomes.
  • Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policies and procedures
  • Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.
  • Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice.

  • Completes screening telephone calls on scheduled surgical patients
  • Orders lab work appropriately
  • Initiates appropriate orders.
  • Accurately completes the PAT/Preop Checklist
  • Is able to prioritize telephone calls based on date and urgency of lab work completion.
  • Reports patient concerns to Preanesthesia Testing Nurse Liaison and anesthesiologist.
  • Independently follows up on appropriate needs for patients.
  • Flexible to assist and relieve nurses in all areas of PACU department as directed by Manager during high census times, or to cover vacations.
  • Follow Anderson Hospital dress code for nursing staff.
  • Keep up on all Health-stream assignments and department competencies
