About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Op / Outpatient Surgery Unit (OPSU) provides professional nursing care to surgical patients by utilizing the nursing process across the pre-operative, post-operative, and discharge phases of care. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patient safety, comfort, education, and continuity of care throughout the outpatient surgical experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Registered Nurse experience
  • Surgery, pre-operative, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), or recovery room experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Successful completion of NARMC pharmacology exam (80% or higher)
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (within one year of hire)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (within one year of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and patient-centered nursing care in the Pre-Op and Outpatient Surgery Unit
  • Admit and prepare patients for surgical procedures, ensuring emotional comfort and clinical readiness
  • Monitor and assess post-operative patients, identifying changes in condition and responding appropriately
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and warning signs
  • Coordinate care with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
  • Supervise and assist with post-operative recovery, discharge planning, and follow-up care
  • Ensure accurate documentation, chart completion, and charge entry
  • Promote and enforce infection prevention and control standards
  • Identify patient care issues and participate in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives
  • Conduct post-operative follow-up calls to assess recovery progress and patient satisfaction
