About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Op / Outpatient Surgery Unit (OPSU) provides professional nursing care to surgical patients by utilizing the nursing process across the pre-operative, post-operative, and discharge phases of care. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patient safety, comfort, education, and continuity of care throughout the outpatient surgical experience.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
Minimum of two (2) years of Registered Nurse experience
Surgery, pre-operative, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), or recovery room experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Successful completion of NARMC pharmacology exam (80% or higher)
Demonstrated ability to recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions

Nice To Haves

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (within one year of hire)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (within one year of hire)

Responsibilities

Deliver safe, compassionate, and patient-centered nursing care in the Pre-Op and Outpatient Surgery Unit
Admit and prepare patients for surgical procedures, ensuring emotional comfort and clinical readiness
Monitor and assess post-operative patients, identifying changes in condition and responding appropriately
Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and warning signs
Coordinate care with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
Supervise and assist with post-operative recovery, discharge planning, and follow-up care
Ensure accurate documentation, chart completion, and charge entry
Promote and enforce infection prevention and control standards
Identify patient care issues and participate in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives
Conduct post-operative follow-up calls to assess recovery progress and patient satisfaction
