The Pre and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), also known as the Peri-Anesthesia Care Unit, is a critical care unit within the hospital's Perioperative Services that provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing anesthesia and recovering from surgery or procedures. This unit plays a vital role in the surgical process by closely monitoring patients' vital signs, managing pain, addressing post-anesthesia side effects and ensuring a safe and smooth recovery before they are discharged or moved to inpatient rooms. As an RN on this team, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. How You’ll Benefit Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days + on-call shifts between 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- One year of current acute care RN experience OR licensed military RN experience
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Two years of PACU experience
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
- Educate patients and their families.
