WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT Triage incoming phone calls and electronic communication; respond or escalate per protocols. Gather requirements from internal and external customers and provide information via phone, electronic messaging and in person. Work with physicians, nurses, and patients to resolve questions concerning medications, health education, and medical advice within skill level and scope of practice. Conduct outbound calls or emails to communicate test results and/or directions from the provider. Initiate and follow through on prior authorizations, referrals, and medication refills. Document results and other patient-related information in the electronic health record. Support office staff with patient care, when coverage is needed, including rooming patients, taking vitals, obtaining a comprehensive medical history, administering vaccines, injections and medications, phlebotomy, point of care testing and medication reconciliation. Assist the patient by acquiring the appropriate appointment, as needed. Record and maintain complete and accurate records of patient and physician communications regarding medical care according to standard medical record documentation requirements. Retrieve messages from phone mail in a timely manner and respond to patient needs according to medical priority. Submit electronically/fax new prescriptions and refill prescriptions according to Physician orders. Serve as a resource to clinic staff regarding medical information, patient assessment, and nursing management of illness. Perform document scanning, as needed.
