About The Position

The RN-Perioperative Residency Program at Bridgeport Hospital is designed for both new graduate and experienced registered nurses who are passionate about pursuing a career in operating room (OR) nursing. This comprehensive training program, known as Periop 101, equips nurses with the essential knowledge and clinical skills needed to function independently in an entry-level perioperative nursing position. The program combines online learning, hands-on skills labs, and clinical rotations, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for the demands of the OR environment.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current RN licensure in the State of Connecticut.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification obtained prior to employment or within one month of hire.
• Ability to obtain other specialty trainings/certifications within 24 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a clinical setting as a registered nurse.
• Familiarity with operating room procedures and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Complete the Periop 101 training program, which includes online modules, skills labs, and clinical preceptorship.
• Participate in clinical rotations across various service lines including General, Gynecology, Robotics, Urology, Orthopedics, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Vascular, and Neurology.
• Develop proficiency in scrubbing and circulating during surgical procedures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care.
• Maintain required specialty trainings and certifications throughout employment.
