About the position

The RN Perioperative OR Coordinator II is the first level management and typically supervises one or more areas of a department. Supervises two or more professional and or support staff at work as well as their day to day activities. Typically does not have the authority to hire, fire, or promote but their input on these types of actions is highly considered. Main focus is on each employee they manage. May coordinate the business aspects of a department to include but not limited to strategy, project management, budget planning and oversight and financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support and be proactive within the service line team/department to achieve unit and organization goals.
  • Achieve clinical and quality measures, operational efficiency, and financial targets.
  • Reduce and eliminate supply and care variation via trialing and collection of evaluations of products.
  • Ensure Care Team Member (CTM) retention and recruitment.
  • Serve as an educational resource to the team while following AORN best practices and guidelines.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with SPD leadership to create and maintain a culture of teamwork and safety.
  • Lead/Co-Lead the Working Specialty Groups (WSGs) and ensure CTMs attend regularly.
  • Participate in S3/RCA events including action planning, education, and audits specific to the service.
  • Work collaboratively with other coordinators, charge nurses, SPD & Periop-Procedural units to provide staffing solutions.
  • Ensure adequate staff and staff competency specific to the service line, equipment, and processes.
  • Request and post job vacancies within the service via the FTE Request System.
  • Monitor OurDay and review posted positions daily for new candidates and interview candidates within 1-3 days.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Professional Development team for new-hire onboarding and service specific competencies training.
  • Provide constructive feedback and direction to CTMs and administer equitable and objective-constructive feedback for yearly evaluations.
  • Address behavioral, attendance, and performance issues via the disciplinary process.
  • Work closely with Perioperative Leadership to standardize and systemize PeriProcedural operations.
  • Collaborate with leaders throughout MUSC Health to establish operating procedures and improve overall quality outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing or currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree Nursing program with completion of the degree within 2 years for promotion.
  • Extensive knowledge of the unit's patient population, health care trends, community and regional resources.
  • CNOR certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Must complete new leader onboarding in-person classes and Frontline Nurse Leader Development Program within 6-months of hire.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Two years of work experience within the OR excluding the orientation period.
  • RN licensure by South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
  • Scrub & circulating experience.
