About The Position

At Children’s Wisconsin, the Surgicenter is an outpatient surgery center equipped with the latest technology, performing a wide variety of outpatient surgical procedures at a lower cost than area hospitals. The center boasts a medical staff of over 150 board-certified or eligible surgeons, anesthesiologists specializing in pediatric care, and registered nurses certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support, many with specialty certifications. Surgical technologists and assistants are specially trained to support physicians. The center is Joint Commission certified and seeks individuals dedicated to achieving its vision of the healthiest kids in the country. As a Perianesthesia RN, the role involves being a calm, confident presence for children and their families, setting a positive tone for a safe surgical experience. Children's Wisconsin is the region's only independent healthcare system focused solely on children's health, offering comprehensive care in Milwaukee and statewide, in partnership with The Medical College of Wisconsin.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN in order to meet the recommended entry level for a professional nurse (or equivalent academic and/or professional experience).
  • A current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Three years of current post-anesthesia or critical care experience is required
  • Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
  • PALS certifications required within 1 year of employment.
  • Must possess good eyesight, hearing, emotional stability, physical endurance and dexterity in order to draw meds, use phone, and write messages.
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 8 hours, and lift and move large pieces of equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and remain mentally alert for accurate judgment

Nice To Haves

  • A BSN is preferred.
  • experience in an ambulatory surgery setting is desirable.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and delivering professional nursing care throughout the perianesthesia (pre and post op care) continuum.
