About The Position

Nestled in the most northern part of Vermont, North Country Hospital is a community-focused Critical Access 25 bed hospital, where we prioritize the well-being of our neighbors. Our patient's health is our priority, and we go above and beyond to care in every way possible. A successful Preop/PACU RN is one who is meticulous and detailed oriented. One should be caring, compassionate and have knowledge of the care of the patient pre and post-surgical procedures. The RN should have a broad knowledge of all age populations, recognizing normal and abnormal presentation of the patient. The Preop/PACU RN will adhere to the ASPAN standards of care and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Certification in CAPA (optional but preferred).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first year of hire.
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS certification) within 2nd year of hire.
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and a positive birthing experience.
  • Incorporate Evidence-Based best Practice into the daily setting through holistic, quality based with the most up to date research and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the patient's history through chart review and interviewing the patient.
  • Orient the patient and/or family/support person to the routines of surgery.
  • Assess and monitor according to the procedure performed.
  • Provide appropriate interventions based on patient condition.
  • Control the patient's pain through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Communicate with patients and their families, being a patient advocate, and providing emotional support.
  • Document patient information and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Operate and monitor medical equipment.
  • Identify any complications or emergencies and respond swiftly.
  • Educate patients about the procedure and what to expect during their recovery.
