About The Position

The RN PRN (Registered Nurse Pro Re Nata) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality nursing care on an as-needed basis within healthcare and social assistance settings. This position requires flexibility and adaptability to provide patient-centered care in the Day Surgery, Endoscopy, & PACU Units. Provides continuity and safety in patient treatment. The RN PRN is responsible for assessing patient conditions, administering medications, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, and educating patients and families about health management. By responding promptly to fluctuating patient care demands, the RN PRN helps maintain optimal staffing levels and supports the overall efficiency of healthcare operations. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of care delivered in dynamic clinical environments.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associates or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in acute care or related fields.
  • Must be willing to learn other areas of the OR, DSU, circulate during cases, and Endoscopy.
  • Must be able to transport patients to other areas of the hospital, ICU and Med/Surg.
  • Must be able to start IVs and work independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Experience working in specialized units such as ICU, ER.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on patient advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients based on established care plans and physician orders.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document clinical information accurately.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely while observing patients for adverse reactions or changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment protocols, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, infection control standards, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and supportive care environment.
