About The Position

The Organ Allocation Transplant Coordinator is responsible for managing on-call duties related to organ transplantation at UC San Diego Health. This includes reviewing deceased donor organ offers, triaging patient calls, and coordinating with various medical teams to facilitate organ recovery and placement. The role requires strong critical thinking and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The position is remote but may require on-campus meetings and training.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent multi-organ transplant on-call experience at a multi-organ transplant center.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

• BSN
• Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) certification.
• Epic and Phoenix experience.

Responsibilities

• Take call for the transplant departments (heart, lung, liver, and kidney) at UC San Diego Center for Transplantation.
• Review deceased donor organ offers when organs become available to transplant candidates.
• Triage patient calls and manage UNOS updates and listings.
• Report adverse events and assist with urgent transfers.
• Delegate call-related duties to the Organ Allocation Specialist.
• Facilitate acceptance or refusal of donor organs for transplant.
• Coordinate organ recovery with transplant surgeons and medical teams.
• Communicate with patient recipients regarding organ transplants.
• Provide 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
