About The Position

The Operation Room (OR) RN Service Coordinator facilitates collaboration among a multidisciplinary surgical team to achieve excellent patient outcomes. Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the surgical interdisciplinary care team. Reports to a OR Manager/Director. Provides oversight for OR staff ensuring the delivery of competent clinical nursing/surgical tech care for a specific patient population. Functions in the role of subject matter expert for their specialty service. Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures. Performs and provides oversight of complex clinical tasks and procedures requiring specialty training in both clinical competencies, EMR documentation, preference card management, staffing and staff orientation/training. Assists with hiring, evaluation, and supporting OR team members. Participates in evaluation of equipment and budget process for area of specialty. Provides direct patient care to service specific patients to maintain competency in specialty. Performs all functions of an Operating Room Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • Approximately two years of clinical practice in the operating room in designated specialty to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of unit and departmental policies and procedures, and to fulfill established quality and quantity standards for the job is required.
  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse is required.
  • Upon hire any non-BSN nurse with less than one year of licensed registered nurse experience will be required to enroll in a BSN (or higher nursing degree) program. Acceptance into a program is expected within 15 months of hire and the degree program must be completed within 5 years of enrollment, or 6 years if program is MSN, DNP or PhD in Nursing.
  • Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent required upon hire.
  • Certified Nurse – Operating Room (CNOR) certification is required within 6 months of hire into the role. Any incumbent who is not CNOR certified needs to become certified within 6 months of activation of job description.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group.
  • Ability to coordinate staffing and patient load capacity.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication/people skills.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a stressful and changing environment.
  • Resiliency and flexibility to deal with an ever-changing health care environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a charge RN, educator or council co-chair preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred.
