About The Position

The position involves acting as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures. Responsibilities include checking medical gas alarm panels and sterilizers, assisting with patient preparation for surgery, and providing support to anesthesia personnel. The nurse will remain with the patient during induction, perform surgical prep, and ensure that all necessary instruments and supplies are available during the operation. Post-operative duties include making follow-up calls to patients and documenting their responses. The role also requires maintaining a sterile field, cleaning instruments, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing.
  • Active Florida RN license.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in O.R.
  • Current CPR and ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Act as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures.
  • Check medical gas alarm panel and sterilizers for proper functioning.
  • Assist Scrub Tech with opening supplies for cases.
  • Prepare patient for surgery by verifying identity and scheduled procedure.
  • Help relieve patient’s apprehension before and during anesthesia administration.
  • Remain at patient’s side during induction.
  • Perform surgical prep.
  • Make available additional instruments and supplies during the operation.
  • Record vital signs and administer medications as ordered.
  • Count sponges and needles required for surgical cases.
  • Assist in transferring patient to PACU.
  • Ensure supplies for each case are ready for use.
  • Assist in cleaning the room after a case.
  • Assist with post-op calls to patients and document responses.
  • Take inventory and restock supplies in O.R.
  • Update Physicians’ cards as needed.
  • Perform functions in the instrument processing system.
  • Assist with nursing functions in other clinical areas.
  • Dust all lights and flat surfaces of the room prior to first case.
  • Assist with draping patient and arranging instruments.
  • Maintain a sterile field during procedures.
  • Clean instruments and O.R. at the end of each case.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Comply with safety and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in unit cost containment measures.
