About The Position

The position involves acting as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures. Responsibilities include checking medical gas alarm panels and sterilizers, preparing patients for surgery, assisting anesthesia personnel, and performing surgical prep. The nurse will also be responsible for recording vital signs, counting sponges and needles, and ensuring that supplies for each case are ready for use. Additional duties include assisting with post-op calls, taking inventory, and performing functions in the instrument processing system.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing.
• Active Florida RN license.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in O.R.
• Current CPR and ACLS certification.

• CNOR preferred.
• Must have flexible scheduling to work once a week any day.

Responsibilities

• Act as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures.
• Check medical gas alarm panel and sterilizers for proper functioning.
• Assist Scrub Tech with opening supplies for case.
• Prepare patient for surgery by verifying identity and scheduled procedure.
• Help relieve patient's apprehension before and during anesthesia administration.
• Remain at patient's side during induction and perform surgical prep.
• Make available additional instruments and supplies during the operation.
• Record vital signs and give medications as ordered during local sedation cases.
• Count sponges and needles required by surgical case/procedure.
• Assist in transferring patient to PACU.
• Assure that supplies for each case are ready for use.
• Assist in cleaning of room after a case.
• Assist with post-op call to patient and document responses.
• Take inventory and restock supplies in O.R.
• Update Physicians' cards as needed.
• Perform functions in the instrument processing system.
• Assist with nursing functions in other clinical areas.
• Share responsibility with the Circulating Nurse for ensuring supplies are ready.
• Dust all lights and flat surfaces of room prior to first case.
• Assist with draping patient and arranging instruments during surgery.
• Maintain a sterile field during the procedure.
• Clean instruments and O.R. at the end of each case.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Comply with safety and emergency procedures.
• Participate in unit cost containment measures.
