About The Position

The position involves planning, executing, directing, and evaluating nursing care for surgical patients during the preoperative and postoperative periods. The nurse will have contact with patients throughout their surgical experience, ensuring that the environment, equipment, and supplies are prepared for the patient's care. Responsibilities include performing pre-admission assessments, providing preoperative instructions, and ensuring all necessary data is available in the patient's record. The nurse will communicate any abnormal medical histories to the anesthesiologist and maintain communication with the reception area and operating rooms to facilitate patient movement. Postoperatively, the nurse will assess patients upon admission and discharge from the recovery area, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and assist physicians with procedures. The nurse will also ensure patients are not left alone in recovery, provide post-operative instructions, and assist in emergency situations as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing.
  • Active Florida RN license.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in PACU or Critical Care.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and PALC certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, direct, and evaluate nursing care for surgical patients.
  • Prepare, assemble, and organize the environment, equipment, and supplies for patient care.
  • Perform pre-admission assessments and provide preoperative instructions.
  • Ensure all necessary data is in the patient's record prior to admission.
  • Communicate abnormal medical histories to the anesthesiologist.
  • Maintain communication with reception and operating rooms for patient movement.
  • Admit patients in the pre-op area and follow admission protocols.
  • Assess patients' conditions upon admission and discharge from the recovery area.
  • Monitor post-op patients by taking vital signs and documenting progress.
  • Administer medications, IVs, and treatments, and observe patient reactions.
  • Assist physicians with sterile and non-sterile dressing changes and procedures.
  • Provide post-operative instructions and ensure follow-up appointments are scheduled.
  • Provide immediate respiratory assistance and perform CPR in emergencies.
  • Maintain the Code Blue/crash cart and safety precautions.
  • Assist in restocking the unit and maintain a safe environment.
