About The Position

Circulator/Scrub Nurse Part-Time; 24 Hours per Week; Monday-Friday; Varied Day Shift; No Weekend or Holidays The Circulator/Scrub Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients in the operating room. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to customers within the perioperative and outpatient environment utilizing the nursing process. Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience required.
  • Must possess a current Iowa license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must be certified or willing to certify in BLS, PALS, and ACLS.
  • Must complete the Dependent Adult/Child Abuse Training.

Responsibilities

  • Scrubs and circulates for surgical and endoscopy procedures, preparing the surgery suite and ensuring all required supplies, equipment, and instruments are available.
  • Maintains a calm, patient-centered environment while individualizing care based on each patient’s age, health status, and procedure.
  • Monitors and restocks surgery inventory; operates equipment and performs technical skills according to policy while seeking guidance appropriately.
  • Synthesizes patient data, uses critical thinking to guide actions, and documents care clearly and accurately in the patient record.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, communicating significant findings or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Follows universal precautions and maintains patient confidentiality according to policy.
  • Completes daily and weekly tasks to support safe and efficient department operations, ensuring ORs and the Surgery Department remain clean and sanitary.
  • Maintains responsibility for attendance, required competencies, mandatory training, and unit-specific certifications (e.g., ACLS).
  • Participates in goal setting and performance improvement initiatives alongside leadership.
