With 388 beds it is the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals and offers a comprehensive range ofmedical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services. About the Role We are seeking a highly organized and clinically experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room team as a Scheduler. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth coordination of surgical procedures, optimizing OR utilization, and supporting patient safety and care continuity.

Requirements

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.
  • Exception: Registered nurses hired after July 1, 2014, without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014, are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
  • Previous operating room experience required; 2+ years preferred.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
  • BLS (or higher) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in scheduling or administrative coordination is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in EPIC and OpTime software.
  • Minimum of 2 plus years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perioperative or surgical settings.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the state of North Carolina
  • Previous surgeon clinic nursing or perianesthesia experience preferred.
  • Professional specialty certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of case details, patient information, and required resources.
  • Monitor and adjust OR schedules to accommodate emergencies, cancellations, and changes.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and clinical protocols.
  • Support pre-operative planning and patient flow management.
