About The Position

UW Medical Center-Northwest - Medical-Surgical Unit at the Center for Behavioral Health and Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Nurse Manager. This unit follows a dual management structure, where different managers oversee different floors. This position covers the 3rd floor and oversees 25 beds and 60 staff. The Medical-Surgical Unit at the Center for Behavioral Health and Learning supports a wide range of individuals, including general acute care patients, telemetry monitoring patients, and patients with multiple behavioral health comorbidities. We have 50 beds split between two floors. This position will specifically manage our third floor, which has 25 beds. Our patients receive holistic treatment, addressing their physical, medical, and mental health needs. Ideal for a nurse leader with expertise supporting medically acute patients and patients with underlying psychiatric diagnoses The Center for Behavioral Health and Learning is a first-of-its-kind facility designed to transform the way we approach mental health care

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
  • 2-3 years of nursing leadership experience in psychiatric and acute care

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ITA laws preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide dynamic leadership to a team of 60 staff, including Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants
  • Foster a culture of accountability through coaching, mentorship, and shared leadership
  • Ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care consistent with current best practices
  • Monitor patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization to maintain efficiency in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and accrediting bodies’ regulations
  • Lead and participate in quality initiatives and performance improvement efforts
  • Support onboarding, education, and continuous learning
  • Counsel employees and utilize the disciplinary process when appropriate
  • Promote a culture of safety by actively identifying risks, addressing patient and staff concerns, and participating in incident investigations
  • Monitor department budget, and manage staffing ratios, supply usage, and equipment needs
  • Propose cost-effective strategies that support quality patient care
  • Serve as a liaison between frontline staff and hospital leadership
