About The Position

Fairview is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. This position involves 60 hours per two weeks, working Day/Night 12-hour shifts on a variable schedule, including every third weekend rotation. St. John’s Hospital offers a welcoming environment with caring staff, state-of-the-art technology, and expert specialists, nurses, and staff, all contributing to an innovative healing environment and compassionate healthcare delivery. The hospital is committed to providing superior healthcare to its growing community, operating as a 184-bed facility with a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 21-bed Level 3 unit, providing care for infants 28 weeks gestational age and older, and is equipped with nasal CPAP and ventilators. In addition to NICU duties, staff RNs will also care for couplets in the Postpartum unit, maintaining patient ratios of 1-3 for mom and baby. Responsibilities in this area include assessing mothers and infants, administering medication, assisting with breastfeeding, and supporting families in gaining independence in caring for their newborns at home. This role also offers the opportunity to obtain RN Certification in Neonatal Nursing (RNC).

Requirements

  • Active MN RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers
  • NRP Certification at or within 6 months post hire onto the unit
  • At least one year RN NICU Level III or Level IV experience in an Acute Care Hospital

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the key leader of the interdependent team and achieve patient and unit outcomes by coordinating the care for a group of patients.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs.
  • Identify outcomes based on the needs' assessment.
  • Establish the plan of care.
  • Monitor the progress of the plan of care.
  • Modify the plan of care as needed.
  • Demonstrate dedication to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the HealthEast nursing vision and strategy.
  • Apply the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care.
  • Understand and incorporate holistic nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association whenever holistic therapy is offered.
  • Communicate effectively with patient/family, physicians, the interdependent team, and other disciplines regarding the plan of care.
  • Assess and document learning needs of the patient and family.
  • Develop an individualized education plan for patients and families based on identified needs.
  • Actively participate in crafting and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation.
  • Actively participate in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
  • Assess mothers and infants.
  • Provide medication administration to mothers and infants.
  • Assist with breastfeeding.
  • Work towards a family’s independence in caring for their baby at home.
