About The Position

The Butterworth OR is a level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital, featuring twenty-one operating rooms that provide 24/7 patient care, including support for procedures across other medical center departments. The multidisciplinary team comprises anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, surgical technicians, and support technicians, collaborating to deliver high-quality, safe patient care. The surgical team is proficient in various specialties such as orthopedic and neurosurgical trauma, acute care surgery, women’s health, urology, oncology, and general surgery. The department utilizes advanced care delivery technologies including DaVinci and Rosa robotics, Stealth guided navigation, and intra-operative MRI technology, all focused on safe, efficient, patient-centered care. Butterworth Hospital, located in Grand Rapids, is a nationally recognized facility for patient quality and safety and serves as the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals. The Registered Nurse service-line expert is responsible for ensuring efficient surgical case completion. This involves supporting direct patient care through a comprehensive understanding of the technology, equipment, instruments, and supplies necessary for surgical procedures. The RN Navigator collaborates with all patient care providers to complete daily cases on schedule, reviews upcoming surgical procedures to coordinate staffing, imaging, and supplies, and develops standard work to enhance consistency and prevent delays. They also actively educate team members on the proper setup and use of equipment and technology and proactively anticipate and problem-solve surgeon, patient, and team needs to ensure smooth case operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • 5 years of relevant experience previous procedural nursing experience
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Nurse in OR (CNOR) - AORN Association of perioOperative Registered Nurses Grand Rapids Hospitals 1 Year required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Grand Rapids Hospitals 90 Days required Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Grand Rapids Hospitals 90 Days required

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for efficient surgical case completion.
  • Supporting direct patient care through working knowledge of the technology, equipment, instruments and supplies required for surgical procedure completion.
  • Collaborates with all patient care providers to efficiently complete the day's cases on schedule.
  • Reviews upcoming surgical procedures to coordinate staffing and required imaging and supplies.
  • Develops standard work to drive consistency and eliminate delays.
  • Actively educates team members on proper set up and use of equipment and technology for patient care.
  • Anticipates surgeon, patient and team needs and problem solves in advance so that cases run smoothly.
